Triathlon Nutrition: A Fuel Plan for the Swim, Bike and Run
The bike does not end at T2. It decides how much nutrition work your gut must do on the run.
Triathlon planning is a handover: breakfast supports the swim, the bike carries most of the intake, and the run protects what remains.

before the swim
Use a familiar carbohydrate-rich breakfast with enough time to digest. A small pre-start carbohydrate dose may help when the wait is long, but do not stack breakfast, drink and gel without counting the total.
Plan where bottles and fuel sit in transition. Packaging should open with wet hands.
use the bike strategically
The bike is normally the easiest leg for regular intake. Start early once settled, use alarms and build toward the hourly carbohydrate target you have trained. Separate bottle contents by hour so you know what has actually been consumed.
Do not chase a missed hour with one huge dose. Resume the schedule and protect the run.
simplify the run
By T2, flavour fatigue and heat may be high. Use fewer formats, predictable aid stations and a conservative plan that you have tested off the bike.
For long-course events, practise race nutrition during brick sessions. A 2THRV Whole Food Fuel Gel provides a countable 30g carbohydrate per pouch.
the bottom line
The bike does not end at T2. It decides how much nutrition work your gut must do on the run. Build the numbers, practise the timing and keep what works under real training pressure.

frequently asked questions
how many carbs per hour for a triathlon?
It depends on distance and experience. Longer events often use 60–90g per hour on the bike, with the run target limited by individual tolerance.
should i take a gel in transition?
Only if it fits the planned timing and you have tested it. Transition is not a free extra dose.
why does bike fueling matter so much?
The bike is usually the longest leg and the easiest place to consume regular carbohydrate and fluid before the higher-impact run.
